About my new job!
So I said that I would post about my new job. Well, I am now the chapel director / advisor at New Covenant School in Anderson. It's a brand new position with not enough time or pay, so all those things considered, it's not really sure what's it's going to end up looking like yet. Right now, I basically getting to jam with 4 high schoolers two or three times a week. And they're not bad, either! *chuckle* It's really a lot of fun. There's some goals that the headmaster and I would like to see accomplished for the students, but right now there's really only enough time to get music ready for Thursday chapel. Hopefully things will work out to allow some more heart-to-heart stuff than simply helter-skelter rehearsal.

I'm really hoping to be these students' friend. From what I'm beginning to understand from a couple really helpful faculty, that's the trick. You gotta' convince them that they want to be on board. I'm ok with that. I'm a little more agenda driven and "you're here so you gotta' do it," but I'm up for the challenge. It's neat, because I think I already have the one guy with me. He's a great bass player. I'm really hoping to win the others respect and friendship. It's easier with the stronger musicians. The musician/artist comaraderie and all. It'll definitely be a challenge, but I'm already loving it.

I'm really praying that somewhere along the line there will be a way to communicate with the students about worship as an idea, as a pursuit. I really hope they will think about the "why" and "how" of it all. It would be great if this school experience could be for at least a few students a milestone in their lives where they began to really tap into a love and respect for the worship of our God. Hopefully they will recognize their gifts and love to use them for the Lord.

I think the few students, and really the whole school, are excited to have me there, and I'm definitely loving it.

This job is only paying me for 5 hours a week, so to help compensate for what they can't pay me, the headmaster is going to help me advertise for piano lessons. I'm really hoping to pick up a few students. I've also got someone spreading my name in the homeschool community. Please pray that God would bless this effort. I just found out today that I won't be having two students returning with the school year (they've moved to Manhattan), so that's a big hurt. With my church salary getting significantly reduced - though not completely cut, thank God - I'm really looking at the need for the extra income. I would really love to build a good number of students, 'cause the money is good for the time, and I really love doing it. So all y'all out there who wouldn't mind remembering this in your prayers occasionally, please do!

P.S. Sorry about the flubbed grammar and mistypes in the last post. I tried to change it, but the Blogger is angry with that post for some reason and won't let me re-post it. I'm surprised the post ever made it online in the first place. Anybody else have that problem?

=) I think they're pretty pumped to have you here, Daniel. Lori loves that you're able to put time into chapel and really care about it!
